How To Store And Handle Prepregs?

In a prepreg, the resin matrix has already been activated—meaning it has been mixed with its hardener—during the prepregging process. This means that, theoretically, the curing process begins immediately upon manufacture. However, the very low reactivity of the resins typically used in prepregs allows them to cure extremely slowly at ambient temperatures. This characteristic enables the prepreg to be stored and handled at room temperature for a limited duration, referred to as the prepreg’s outlife.

To significantly extend the shelf life of uncured prepreg, it can be stored in a freezer at -20°C. Under these conditions, the uncured prepreg can remain viable for several months or even years. The duration for which the prepreg can be safely stored at -20°C is known as its freezer life.
